Life is made up of a series of choices

This morning, we woke up in Helena to snow. As a Midwesterner, during the month of June I forgot that snow existed. This morning it was very real and very cold. We were faced with the choice – do we cycle the scheduled 36 miles to Wolf Creek? Or do we wait out the weather?

Luckily, this choice was made for us. Because visibility was so low, our instructors agreed that we would spend another night in Helena with our gracious hosts, the Ashleys.

"Valley of Peace"

After our longest day of riding yet, it was nice to have today to rest and rejuvenate. Last night we slept outside on the earth without a tent – some that I love to do. There is something invigorating about opening your eyes to blue skies and fresh air in the morning. Today we were spoiled with showers and even a collective load of laundry.

Meals on Wheels – and in Communities

We started off day six with everything working in our favor. Blue skies, perfect weather and even a slight tailwind made our 45 mile trip to Roundup fantastic. The green grass, snowy mountains, and rushing water were simply breath-taking. On a ride like this it is easy to wonder why anyone would choose to make this trip by car, with the risk of loosing some of the splendor of being in the scenery.

Day 2: Green buildings, restored faith

According to the 2007 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report, the world has seven years to reverse its current CO2 trend. Seven years to wean ourselves wane of our oil addiction. Seven years to ditch coal and find new sources of energy. Hearing this I feel compelled to devote my time to finding solutions and to convince others to do the same. But sometimes, I worry that it is too late. How can I be expected to save the world from this catastrophe?

Ed Gulick restored my faith.
