Heather Upin

Instructor

Heather took her first backpacking trip during high school, spending eight days engulfed in Canyonlands National Park. Having grown up in the flat plains of Minnesota, the deep curves of Utah left her in awe. Fascinated by the stories rocks could tell, Heather pursued a BA in Geology from Smith College in western Massachusetts, and a few years later earned an MS in the same field from Utah State University. Between and after her schooling, Heather held a variety of jobs in all aspects of natural resources, from forestry to environmental consulting. Her breadth of experience has helped her develop a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of nature. In her spare time you will find Heather cultivating her colony of microbes to make sourdough bread, taking photos of and drawing wildflowers, or hiking and discussing rocks with her also-a-geologist partner.
