Welcome to the Wild Rockies Field Institute! We’re honored that you have chosen WRFI as an off-campus experience and thrilled for you to join us in the field.

We’re Happy to Help

WRFI is a small organization and we pride ourselves on providing each student and their family with personalized attention and support. Please do not hesitate to call or email the WRFI office at any point with questions or concerns. We enjoy getting to know our students and their families and look forward to hearing from you! You can reach us at 406-549-4336 (Mountain Standard Time) or via email at wrfi@wrf.net.

Academic Credit

It is important that you work with your advisors at your home institution to determine how the credits from your WRFI course (which come from the University of Montana) will transfer back to your school. The process for transferring credits is different for every school and for every student. WRFI is more than happy to contact your advisor to provide supporting documentation as well as discuss the nature of interdisciplinary, academic field-based coursework with them. Given the fact that WRFI courses are relatively non-traditional, it can be beneficial for academic advisors to consult with WRFI staff to gain a comprehensive understanding of the academic components on our courses.

Costs

WRFI tuition covers instruction; fees and permits; group camping and cooking gear; kayaks and canoes (if required) and related equipment; dinner meals; and incidental supplies like maps and field guides. Students must provide their own clothing, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, backpack, breakfast and lunch meals, and download and print the course text. Financial Assistance

WRFI can help provide you with financial assistance in several ways:

Paperwork

Upon acceptance to a WRFI course, WRFI will send you an acceptance email as well as a link to a Google Drive folder exclusively for enrolled WRFI students. Please pay close attention to the deadlines for paperwork and payments. If you have any questions, please call or email the WRFI office!

Travel planning

You will receive information about travel planning and logistics from your instructors 60 days prior to your course start date. However, we are happy to help you with travel planning and logistics at your convenience. Please contact the WRFI office with questions!
