Jack Whamond

Campus Ambassador: St. Lawrence University

My name is Jack Whamond and I’m a junior at St. Lawrence University studying environmental Studies and Music. I grew up in Hingham, Massachusetts, with parents who instilled a love of the outdoors in me from a very early age. Most of my earliest memories are exploring the winding paths of Womaptuck State Park by bike.

I participated in WRFI’s Cycle the Rockies course in the summer of 2022, which was one of the greatest experiences I ever had. Being from the east, traversing Central and Western Montana’s rolling plains and powerful mountains was a unique and delightful journey. Learning from our outstanding instructors and people we met along the way, we discussed all aspects of the energy system and climate change in Montana, two things I was passionate about, but being in a new location I knew very little about. Traveling everywhere from coal mines, ecologically sustainable houses, wind turbine farms, and Glacier National Park, it was truly a once in a lifetime learning experience I cannot recommend enough.

WRFI’s programs changed my mind set and the way I look at my studies in a powerfully positive way. Please reach out and ask me questions, I’d love to talk to you about WRFI!
